Christmas Holiday Home Tour 2010

My time is a bit scrunched this year but at least my decorations are up and my house is Tour Friendly even if I'm posting at the last minute! I hope you enjoy a few glimpses of my Holiday Home! Don't forget to jog over and look at all the amazing houses and decorations courtesy of TheNester!

Living Room Touches:

As you can tell by my header, I love everything Fairies (not cheesy little Tinkerbell Fairies but elegant ones. DH has been buying me fairies ornaments every year so I have a collection going on the tree:

I love Everything Santa at Christmas. I BELIEVE, do you?

I do not have pictures of our simple outdoor decorations. If it's not raining, snowy or crazy bitter wind, then it's dark. Thus no pics. The one decent afternoon we had, we did manage to get some pictures snapped for our Christmas cards, thanks to BETH! So here is one of the shots from that (not the one we used since DH had a bad expression which is over half the pics) but not the one we are using for our card. This one shows the most decorations and our beautiful dogs so I will end with a Merry Christmas from our Home to yours!

Menu Monday-Two Weeks till Christmas

Can you believe that there is only one weekend left till christmas? OMG, I haven't even STARTED the homemade goods, baking etc. Where has the time gone? I was ambitious last night and made several drafts of posts for recipes over the past few weeks WITH pictures (finally right?) but I didn't get the recipe parts done so you will have to wait. Progress has been made though right?

I'm very dissappointed that it doesn't look like I'll be able to try a bunch of new holiday recipes either. I just don't have the time but I will atleast do a mash up of past favorites that I'm making this year.

This week is COOLLLDDDD here in NC (high 30, low 17 with windchills of 12 and below) YIPES!

So for Sunday, I made a big crock pot full of vegetable soup.

I pulled out some of the hamburger and onion cooked in tomato stock to make Beef Enchiladas later in the week.

I also roasted some Chicken Breasts for a Broccoli and Rice Casserole.

I have a Turkey Breast in the Freezer and another pack of Chicken Breasts in the fridge in case the leftover's don't hold out the whole week! LOL I'm hoping by getting a headstart on my meals I can spend a little time on Holiday Goodies and Blogging!

Blogger Luncheon

Last Thursday, I did something very special. I met up with a long time Blogger Pal Jeanna! Jeanna and I have shared a great deal in the past year. We met during our 1st Trimester's on The Bump and unfortunately both experienced loss, heart ache, and a myriad of other emotions. We have continuously followed each other's story and become friends online. We finally met face to face and I foresee a long friendship in our future including our boys playing together. That's the best part of this fairytale: we are pregnant together AGAIN with healthy baby boy's five weeks a part.

I count myself and my son lucky to be included in such company for Jeanna truly is a sweet soul through and through. I'm so happy to be a party of her story and she a part of mine and I can't wait to meet up with her again!

Week 24- VIABILITY DAY!

Total weight gain: As of Monday i was still holding at 13 pounds. WHEW!
Maternity clothes? Pretty much. I went to put on my black dress pants this morning and I couldn't sit down in them as the waist cut into me...so I had to break out the new black maternity dress pants...which I don't care for.
Sleep: not so great this week.
Best moment this week: Laying in bed feeling my son wiggle around while snuggling with my husband. It was such a peaceful amazing feeling.
Gender: Definately a BOY!
Craving: Starbucks Peppermint Mocha and Lemon Loaf (still-I'm going to go broke for sure)
Movement: Feeling movement every day and most of the night! Lots of thumps, bumps, flutters, and flips and a few painful jabs.
Labor Signs: No.
Belly Button in or out? Still In but getting...ummm smaller and more squished looking.
What I miss: My nails. I had fabulous nails...now they are growing fast but keep breaking in the quick.
What I am looking forward to: Getting the glucose test done and then shopping with the momma and finishing the registry.
Milestones: IT's V-day! I know that doesn't guarantee anything but it makes me feel a measure of safety in that now my hospital will atleast TRY to save my little boy if the unthinkable happens!

Another Monday

I promise I actually have things to post (like Cracker Barrel's Hasbrown Casserole, Cracked Pepper Fettucine, Steak and Pasta Stew etc.) I'm gearing up to do some Holiday Baking as well but things have been crazy hectic with holiday shopping, cleaning, decorating and doing some "re-decorating."

My darling husband spend most of the weekend painting our master bedroom while I ran errands during our first snow storm! It was an awesome weekend for christmas movies and gift wrapping over hot coffee. Our bedroom looks fabulous!

What it didn't leave a lot of time for was blogging and being even remotely close to the computer much. MY bad.

The good news is I have vacation coming up and will be able to catch up and do a major blogging blitz!

And then there's always the three months in spring that it will be just me, a bundle of joy and a computer. I plan on treating myself with lots of cooking/baking while at home during that time!

Up this week for the menu:
Holiday Dinner for two: Roasted turkey breast, homemade stuffing, sweet potato casserole, stewed apples and collard greens

Chicken Broccoli and Rice Casserole

cheeseburger Meatloaf with Scalloped Potatoes

Chicken Quesidillas

Spaghetti

And some Holiday Baking but not sure what yet. I'm really wanting to try my hand at Pumpkin Cinnamon rolls with Caramel icing but they may have to wait till a weekend.

Happy Holiday season ya'll!

On BROADWAYYYY!!!!!!!!

Do you ever wonder where your life might have been headed had you or something not changed your course?

At one time, I entertained the idea of Broadway. Glitzy lights, the city, straining my voice in Italian Opera and walking the streets of New York to look at glamorous clothes my gypsy struggling artists life would never afford me. Yet that half seedy, half glamorous life in alley way walk ups no bigger than my master closet appealed to me. For a short time, I got the tiniest taste of that life living in a roach infested studio apartment above a corner deli at college across from the theater department. I volunteered as an usher so I could see shows like “Stomp” for free and hang out with my friends in the theater department. At the time I was leaning towards another artistic venue: interior design, but the pot smoking, Chicago worshipping hippies that the professors preferred weren’t my gig either.

I eventually made it into the textile industry (which at the time was huge in this area) and transferred my love of backstage to organizing fashion shows in the underground areas of Atlanta, GA garment district and being behind the scenes of industry expo’s as booth designer intern. I LOVED every second of working 15 hour days and collapsing on feet that could barely support me.

When I finally graduated and looked for work, the doors were closing. Literally. Companies were folding up shop, abandoning historical buildings and factory towns and moving their products to Mexico and China for a larger profit margin. With my bright shiny new Bachelor’s degree I couldn’t compete with the displaced workers with years of experience and often a Master’s degree to boot who were flooding the market place.

I resorted to a nice cushy job in the family business putting my practical marketing experience and knowledge to good use for them. It was a dream job even if it wasn’t glamorous and often involved trudging to its own seedy part of town at 5am in my pajamas with my dog (as protection) in tow to open the doors for a questionable lot of grease soaked drop outs who could turn a wrench and weld two strips of metal together. The fact was, I COULD roll in in my pajamas and after the first pot of coffee kicked in change in my office while watching the morning news with my dog curled up on the loveseat. It was a huge damn office and I had the run of it.

I took advantage of my family’s willingness for me to explore other opportunities as their retirement loomed in a further spiraling economy and went to Real Estate School. I had no delusions that the family business would stay open as my father, the engineer, was the only one qualified to run it. All the designs and contacts were his and though we tried to find competent foremen, we never had any luck with someone who could design sawmills in their head like he could. I did well in Real Estate school. When it was time to move on for everyone, I even sold Dad’s 25,000 square foot building for them. When the market crashed, I rebounded and found work back in the Corporate Industrial world based on my experience with the family business. It may not be my dream job but I have been very fortunate in keeping jobs and moving on when necessary. Sometimes its slim times, and I’ve seen my share of lay off troubles but I’m a stable worker and good at multi-tasking. I can always find a bright future in the job I’m in even if I’m bored to death.

I still occasionally dream about those bright lights though, like when I’m belting out an aria or singing Phantom of the Opera at the top of my lungs in the car. I still wonder what my life would have been like had I taken different turns. Had I not wasted 2 years on that one slime bucket and waste of human flesh that I had once imagined marrying.

Through it all though, no matter what I dream, it all leads me back to here. Everything leads me back to this man, who was busy with his own choices being a Marine, finding his way while I found mine. At the right time, the perfect time, we found each other and we have made a magnificent life. My dreams may not be the big bright lights or even the Fashion Show diva anymore, but they are real and tame and in them, my husband is always at my side supporting me. We achieved one dream that we both shared, and that’s being a family and creating life.

What can be bigger, more challenging or come with more anticipation than a future full of our son? All the decisions we make now, revolve around providing a life for him. We are dreaming of Boy scout campfires, custom built swing sets, and lullabies sung by night lights. My big debut will be in a hospital where we(my leading man and I) meet our understudy not on a stage in front of thousands of people. Our success will not be measured by how big our name is on a marquee sign but by how happy and healthy a little boy is.

I had dreams, but none as great as this. Dreams change, morph, become realized and become bigger than you could ever imagined them to be. Stop and take a moment to look back on your past dreams and where they have yet to take you. If a dream hasn’t been realized, don’t give up, just keep dreaming. What are your dreams? Where did you expect to be?

Week 23!

Total weight gain: I'm terrified to admit that its up 13 pounds. I cringe on the scale every week and I thought I was prepared for the number to go up over Thanksgiving but I still gagged.
Maternity clothes? No but getting closer everyday.
Sleep: crappy over the holiday weekend and through the storms last night but I'm getting more comfortable sleeping on my side now. I still sleep on my back a lot.
Best moment this week: Getting ready for the holidays and seeing Gifts the Inlaws bought baby on Black Friday because they couldn't resist!
Gender: Definately a BOY!
Craving: Starbucks Peppermint Mocha and Lemon Loaf (random sweet tooth anyone?)
Movement: Getting stronger and more active. Feeling regular movement for long stretches several times a day.
Labor Signs: No.
Belly Button in or out? Still In.
What I miss: My waist and lack of double chin and smooth splotchless skin.
What I am looking forward to: Ordering the crib bedding!
Milestones: One week till Viability.
